Our flagship restaurant Howies Waterloo remains open 7 days a week.
Restricted hours from 11.30 until 6pm and no booze but other than that….it’s business as usual!
Lara and team are looking forward to welcoming you in to enjoy our new Autumn menu all the seasonal goodies you expect from your local restaurant.
At this time of year we all need a virtual hug as we are not able to give a real one, and to this end we have launched the Howies Roast on a Sunday. Mmmmm. BOOK NOW
The Roast will vary, from Scottish Beef to Scottish Lamb for the meat eaters and a deliciously bespoke Vegetarian Roast for those who prefer not to eat meat.
The accompaniments are staying the same week to week, the main reason being we are all hooked on these extraordinary Yorkshire puds….just look at these little beauties and tell me you’re not licking your lips.
Tier 3 is where we stay for the moment so our opening hours remain 11.30am until 6pm.
October is upon us. Yikes really? 2020 has whizzed by. As the nights draw in, we tweak our menus to reflect what we all need right now, comfort and warmth.
Warming casseroles, soups, fresh bread, fresh local produce reflecting this time of year are all on offer in our Autumn selections.
Book for lunch and enjoy 2 courses for £12.75 or 3 courses for £15.75
Early dining becomes all the more relevant with current restrictions, so treat yourself to our 2 course dinner for £15.75
It certainly beats doing the shopping, cooking and washing up yourself. And though we know it’s not quite the same as it was you can rest assured we have everything in place so you can relax and enjoy yourselves.
As we sit here with the rain battering off our heads, yes we should wear hats but we’re just too busy, we realised we are heading for the August Bank Holiday.
It seems little different this year without the Edinburgh Festival footfall and buzz but nonetheless it is a day off for most and bookings are busying up.
So this is just a wee reminder to book your table sooner rather than later, we would hate you to be disappointed because of course Monday 31st is the last day of Eat Out To Help Out Rishi style. Boooo.
But the very next day we launch Eat Out To Help Out The Sequel Yeh!! Which is exactly the same deal as before, eg 50% off everything on our menu (except alcohol), up to a maximum of £10 discount per diner. Valid every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and we’ve added a Thursday too!
This deal is available in all three of our Edinburgh restaurants, Howies Waterloo, Howies Victoria as well as our wee sister Scotts Kitchen which is open from 10am just above Howies Victoria Street on the beautiful Victoria Terrace.
Oh and please note as a one off, next Tuesday, Wednesday, 1st and 2nd September Howies Victoria Street will be closed as we complete our interior tweaks.
We thought you might like to have wee preview of what you might expect when you come in to Howies Victoria Street in our brave new world.
It’s best with the sound on so you can hear the measures we have taken before throwing our doors open again. Rest assured all you need to worry about is who you are going to ask along and what you’re going to order from our new menu!
Looks great doesn’t it? Why not strike whilst the pan is hot and book now!
The team is making everything ship shape for our customers and team and inline with Howies Waterloo and Scotts Kitchen, Howies Victoria have also been awarded The Visit Scotland Good To Go green tick. Below you can see the day to day measures we have put in place and of course we will be following the ever changing Government Guidelines to the letter.
The fun partof all this is the menu which is being developed as you read, we are holding the tasting on Tuesday and are good to go go go on Wednesday!
Keep up to date with us on social media for all the details and some temping pics too as the kitchen gets fired up on Tuesday in preparation for reopening on Wednesday.
But for now it’s all about deep cleaning, fogging Saturday and Sunday, reorganising our space so there is ample space between tables and then we rebuild, and put everything back in situ so everyone feels confident and happy when we fling open our doors for business.
Yeah! We are delighted Howies Waterloo, Howies Victoria and Scotts Kitchen have all won The Travellers Choice Award 2020 from Trip Advisor.
Thank you to you for reviewing us and getting us up there. It means such a lot.
So why not book up for Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday this week for Eat Out To Help Out Deal. In fact book for next week too as word is spreading the half price deal is quite outstanding and it finishes on 31st. August.
As you know Howies famous 2 course set price lunch….which is £12.75. …well not on Monday Tuesday and Wednesday in August! No literally it is halved, divided by 2 which means a 2 course lunch choosing from our whole menu for the princely sum of £6.47. WOW. It is eye poppingly low.
Our 2 course dinner is also half price, as is our 3 course dinner, and our soup, and our 6oz burger and our…..well everything!
Everything at Scotts Kitchen is half price too, including our new fav rave…our delicious Thai Soup..for under £2. 50! It’s practically for nothing.
It’s cheaper to eat out than in so grab your family, friends and come along as you are…we look forward to seeing you!
Booking for this toasty spot is recommended…..BOOK NOW.
Yes the streets are quieter just now for obvious reasons but the air is clear, the sky is blue and the remarkable smells coming out of our kitchen as the team get ready for your arrival…..defy description…so chop chop!
Head down off the High Street, or the Royal Mile if we’re being formal, and take a left just before Victoria Street, it’s a traffic free, haven….
A new menu, a new normal, a new day….we can’t wait to see you!
Delighted and excited to be reopening the doors at Howies Waterloo on Wednesday 29th July. Book Here.
We’ve been busy! Fitting a new staircase, a new kitchen floor and a stylish new glass screen, which as you see looks as thought it was always meant to be there.
Reopening is a labour of love, and if there’s one thing we all love it’s delicious Scottish seasonal food as you can see with the huge cheesy grin of our Chef who is loving theses lobsters!
We’ve a new menu to utilise the very best of our Summer seasonal produce which we are sure you will enjoy. We certainly enjoyed tasting it in advance of it going live for you.
We are so proud of the building, the original Calton Meeting rooms, that we like to make a song and dance about it….tumbling flowers and lots of greenery, flank the door so as you sit alfresco and enjoy your drinks, coffee, and food you’re surrounded by nature.
It’s been a challenging time for us all, but we want you to know we have taken every measure to make our restaurant as safe as possible. So much so that we have been Awarded the AA Covid Ready certificate which is proof that our team and venue have met their very stringent conditions. In addition we have the Good To Go Certificate from Visit Scotland. More assurance we are really on it.
