Howies named Best for Scottish Independent Business of the Year after 36 years in Edinburgh.

We’re incredibly proud to announce that Howies has been named Best for Scottish – Independent Business of the Year at the prestigious Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2026.

The awards celebrate the very best of Scotland’s food and drink industry, recognising businesses that demonstrate excellence, innovation and a commitment to championing Scottish produce.

Our award recognises our dedication to Scottish sourcing, strong supplier relationships, a clear strategy for growth and a strong understanding of our customers, reflecting our continued development as an independent, family-run business.

Celebrating 36 years in Edinburgh, Howies has grown from a single restaurant founded by David Howie Scott in 1990 into three restaurants and a thriving outside catering business, Events by Howies.

With around 90% of our suppliers located within 50 miles of our restaurants, Scottish produce remains at the heart of everything we do. Our longstanding relationships with local farmers, growers and producers continue to shape our seasonal menus and the experience we offer our customers.

This award is a fantastic achievement for the entire Howies team and a wonderful recognition of the Scottish suppliers who have been part of our journey.
